Education

A unique series of school curriculum materials featuring Britains’s road transport hertitage, has been launched to schools throughout the North West in an initiative mounted by the British Commercial Vehicle Museum in Leyland Lanashire and supported by Lawtec and Partnership Link.
Prepared by three Lancashire primary school teachers after a five-day study visit, the curriculum materials are designed for use in conjunction with a visit to the museum and follow-up work in the classroom.
These materials are being offered free of charge with each group visit to the Museum by primary schools in the North West, each pack consists of 50 high quality worksheets, which can be photocopied and used many times. The materials are designed for Key Stages 1 and 2 and are in a flexible format.

HISTORIC ARCHIVES

The Museum Trust has one other important area of activity.

This is the preservation of a huge collection of archives on the commercial vehicle industry. This collection of literature and historic photographic and film material is of exceptional size and nature.

Its nucleus is the former records of Leyland Motors and comprises largely technical material (chassis build records, specifications, workshop manuals, parts lists, etc)

Some idea of the scale of the archive can be gained from the fact that after several years of intensive archiving work by dedicated volunteers, much of the material has still to be properly archived.
